Ponyo Ramen

Ingredients

  • 2-3 thin slices of deli ham
  • 1 package shin black ramyun noodles
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar

Toppings

  • 1-2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 ramen egg (soft-boiled egg marinated in sweetened soy sauce)

Directions

  1. Cut your ham slices into roughly 2-inch strips. I cut mine in half, and then in half again to make four strips per slice. They will shrivel a bit as they cook, so make sure not to cut them too small.
  2. Heat a saucepan over medium heat. Add in the butter and sesame oil. Heat until the butter has completely melted and started to bubble.
  3. Add in your ham strips and give them a quick stir. Then add in your soy sauce and sugar. Stir again to combine.
  4. Cook the ham strips for 3-4 minutes, or until they start to brown and crisp up around the edges.
  5. Remove the cooked ham from the pan and set aside.
  6. In the same saucepan, pour in 2 and 1/2 cups of water (per ramen package instructions) and bring to a boil.
  7. Once your water is boiling, add in the ramen seasoning packet and noodles. Cook noodles per package instructions (typically 4-5 minutes).
  8. When your ramen is done cooking, transfer to a bowl and top with reserved ham strips, green onion, and ramen egg. Serve immediately.
